Comprehensive Approach
The Master of Arts in New Testament is an academic degree designed for the person who desires graduate-level training in New Testament Studies. It is ideal for students seeking to cultivate accurate interpretive skills and tools for exegetical and expositional work in the New Testament. Students will develop exegetical and theological competency and gain proficiency in the translation, interpretation, and use of the Greek New Testament for both personal enrichment and teaching ministries. Specifically, students will be able to interpret a variety of New Testament texts and understand them in their larger, biblical and theological contexts. The M.A. thesis is written on a subject in the field of New Testament Studies. The M.A. is not in itself intended for pastoral training without previous study in that area. The program may be utilized as a basis for further education.
The curriculum is designed around a core of courses that cover the entire Bible, the science of biblical interpretation, and the full compass of Systematic Theology. The focus courses in New Testament are designed to develop proficiency in the reading, issues, and interpretation of the Greek New Testament. The purpose of the M.A. curriculum is to train the student in the sound linguistic, hermeneutical, and theological skills necessary for accurate interpretation and application of the Scriptures in preparation for effective professional ministry.
Objectives
- That the student applies a consistent, dispensational approach when interpreting the Scriptures and applying them to his own life and the lives of others.
- That the student makes appropriate use of available linguistic tools to secure the most accurate understanding of Scriptures available.
- That the student is competent in exegeting the range of texts found in the Greek New Testament.
- That the student possesses a store of biblical, lexical, grammatical, and theological truths as a foundation for personal development, teaching, and further study.
